SCHOOL POLICIES
To ensure the quality of instruction to students, the following attendance and probation policies have been established:
Admission Requirements:
Any student who is physically capable, of sound mind, and between the ages of 16 and 65 may enroll in the program. Students under the jurisdiction of a secondary school must provide written permission from their school principal to attend during regular school hours.
Students utilizing Veteran’s Educational Benefits must submit all prior educational credits for their file; however, no credit will be granted for previous training or education.
Readmission Policy for VA Beneficiaries:
Students attending under VA benefits may interrupt or suspend training due to military service obligations and will be readmitted at the next available start date.
Special Accomodations:
If a student has a special need or learning disability, they must contact the school office to discuss their needs with the Head Instructor or Administration. A school official will communicate the approved accommodations to instructors, and appropriate adjustments will be made to support the student’s needs.
Enrollment Fee:
- Three-Day Cancellation: All monies paid by an applicant will be fully refunded if cancellation is requested within three (3) days of signing the enrollment agreement and making the initial payment.
- Subsequently: Any applicant requesting cancellation after the expiration of the Three-Day Cancellation period, but prior to entering Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School, including any student considered a “No Show,” shall receive a refund of all monies paid minus the $150.00 enrollment fee.
Refund Policy:
- The termination date for refund computation purposes shall be the student’s last date of classroom attendance. The school requires all notices of cancellation or withdrawal to be submitted in writing. Failure to provide written notice may result in a penalty not to exceed $25.00.
- Any applicant rejected by the school, or any student whose class is discontinued, shall receive a full refund of all tuition and enrollment fees paid.
- Any student enrolled in the 6-week course who requests termination of enrollment shall be refunded as follows:

- Any student requesting termination after the first week but within the first 25% (9 days) of the course shall be refunded all monies paid minus 25% of the course cost plus the $150.00 enrollment fee.
- Any student requesting termination after the first 25% (9 days) but within the first 50% (18 days) of the course shall be refunded all monies paid minus 50% of the course cost plus the $150.00 enrollment fee.
- Any student requesting termination after completing more than 50% (19 days) of the course shall not be entitled to a refund.
This policy does not apply to students utilizing Veteran’s Educational Benefits. - Any student utilizing Veteran’s Educational Benefits who requests termination of enrollment shall be refunded on a pro rata basis according to the amount of time enrolled and the last day of attendance. VA students may terminate enrollment at any time for any reason.
- In cases involving prolonged illness, accident, death in the immediate family, or other circumstances that make completion of the program impractical, the school shall make a settlement that is fair and reasonable to both parties.
- Any refund due to the applicant or student, including refunds following dismissal, shall be issued within thirty (30) days of cancellation, termination, or dismissal.
- Books and tools received by the student are non-refundable.

Withdrawal Policy:
If a student chooses to withdraw from training at Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School, they must immediately notify the Director or Owner in writing.
Upon receiving written notification of withdrawal, the Director will calculate the number of days attended and determine any applicable refund. Any monies due to the student will be refunded within thirty (30) days.
Grading Policy:
At Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School, we use a percentage-based grading system. Students are graded on practical skills, written exams, homework completion, participation, and work performed in the barn.
One homework grade and one participation/work grade are given daily. At the end of each week, these grades are averaged together. Students must maintain an overall average of 75% or higher to receive a Certificate of Completion.
We understand that each student progresses at a different pace. Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School asks only that students put forth their best effort to reach their full potential.
If a student maintains a below 75% average for two consecutive weeks, they will meet with staff to discuss options for improvement and sign an advisory form. At that time, the student will enter a probationary period and will have two weeks to raise their average to 75% or higher.
Students who remain below the required average for three weeks will be dismissed from the program. Any examination or assignment that does not receive a passing grade must be redone. Academic examinations may be taken either written or orally at the student’s discretion.
A final written examination and practical shoeing test will be administered during the final week of the course. Both exams must be passed in order to successfully complete the program. Exams may be retaken if not passed on the first attempt. Any missed work must also be completed.
Please Note:
Our standards are high because the expectations in this trade are high. When a customer pays for a job, they have every right to expect quality work. We are committed to helping students meet those standards and are willing to invest the time necessary to help them succeed.
Any student dismissed from the program for failure to progress or maintain a passing grade will not be permitted to re-enter the program.
Probation Policy:
Students will be placed on probation if their overall average drops below 75%.
Students on probation will be evaluated at the end of the first two weeks and weekly thereafter. The purpose of probation is to identify areas needing improvement and provide students with an opportunity to raise their performance to a satisfactory level.
Any student who maintains a below-75% average for more than three consecutive weeks will be dismissed from the program and will not be eligible for re-entry.
Attendance Policy:
Students are expected to arrive on time and maintain consistent attendance throughout the program. There are no scheduled school holidays.
Any student who accumulates three (3) or more unexcused absences will be terminated from the program. Three (3) tardies will equal one (1) unexcused absence. A student is considered tardy after being five (5) minutes late. Arriving more than two (2) hours late will be counted as an unexcused absence.
Excused absences may be approved with a doctor’s note or prior approval from Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School administration. Any student who is absent must complete an absence form with Administration.
After two (2) absences, the student will be required to sign an advisory form with Administration and an instructor outlining the consequences of further absences.
All missed work must be completed by the student on their own time. Absences exceeding 10% of the program (three days) may result in dismissal or failure to graduate on the scheduled date. Students who exceed the allowed absences but choose to continue must make up all missed hours and work, and a new graduation date will be assigned.
Students planning a pre-approved absence must submit a Leave of Absence form in advance. Extended leaves must be approved by Administration, and all coursework must be completed within one (1) year of the original start date.
Failure to comply with attendance requirements, including failure to make up missed work or formally request a leave of absence, may result in termination from the program with no eligibility for re-entry.
Make-Up Work Policy:
All missed work must be completed.
Students are required to make up any missed assignments, testing, or practical work within one (1) week of the original due date. Students must coordinate with instructors to schedule a specific date and time for make-up work. Instructors will be available to oversee all assignments and testing as needed.
Any student who fails to complete required make-up work, exceeds the allowed number of absences, or has unexcused missed days beyond the permitted limit will be terminated from the course.
Students terminated under this policy will not be permitted to re-enroll or return to the program.
Make-Up Work Policy:
